On October 25, members of The Foundation for Educational Excellence Board presented the 2023 Beaufort County School District Teacher of the Year, April Bryant, with the Dr. Wayne Carbiener "Above & Beyond" Award along with a $1,000 grant for use in her classroom. Bryant is a fifth grade teacher at Coosa Elementary School in Beaufort.

Bryant holds a Master of Science in Education, PreK – 6th Grade Literacy and a Bachelor of Arts in Education, Elementary and Early Childhood, with a concentration in Behavioral Studies. She earned a Literacy Endorsement from the S.C. Department of Education, and a Gifted and Talented Endorsement from the University of South Carolina.

The “Above & Beyond” award is presented annually to the Beaufort County School District’s Teacher of the Year in honor of former Beaufort County Board of Education member and Foundation for Educational Excellence supporter, Dr. Wayne Carbiener. Each year, his family honors his profound commitment to our teachers by awarding the grant that reflects his support and admiration for Beaufort County’s public school teachers.
